About the Department The chemistry department of DAV Post Graduate College was instituted in the year 1948. The Department owes its current repute and prestige to the distinguished members.Shri Shyam Sunder Gupta was the Founder Head/In-charge. He joined the department on 1 August 1951 and served till 30 June, 1959. Prof S.N Srivastava also joined on 1 August, 1951 . He served in the department till 31 August, I955. Prof. D. N. Gupta and Prof B.N. Saz joined their services in the department on 1 August, 1959 and 22 August, 1960 respectively and served till 9 july, 1961 and 30 june, 1996 respectively. On 1 July, 1963 Dr. Suresh Kumar joined the department. He remained in the department till 31 March, 1964. Dr K. D. Bahadur joined the department on 6 August, 1964 and served till 30 June 1998 and also served the college as a principal (officiating) from 30th March 1992 to 30th December 1994. Dr S.S Chauhan later joined the department on 10 August 1964 and served till the date 30 June 2000. Dr S.M.A Naqvi joined on 21 August 1969 and served till the date of the completion of his service up to 30 June 2003. Dr O.S. Khare too joined the department on 19 October, 1970 and served till 30 June, 1994. Dr M.B.L Sharma served in the department for a long duration from 25 November, 1970 to 30 June, 1993. Dr Anil Kumar, an eminent scholar served in the department for a longer duration period than any of the previous colleagues. He joined on 6 October, 1971 and served till 30 June, 2009. Dr S.N Tripathi joined the department by transfer on 1 July 2000 and completed his tenure of service on 30 June 2009. Dr J. N. Shukla is one of the stalwarts of the field and the department, joined the department by transfer on 1 July, 2000 and served till 30 Jun 2011. Dr A.K Agarwal taught in the department from 14 July 2007 to 30 June, 2016 after joining the department also by transfer. Dr Anil Kumar Agarwal has been awarded the Devki Dutta Gold Medal for his contribution to Environmental Education in 2010. Dr. Bineeta Yadav joined the department on 24 february, 2006 followed by Dr. Vineeta Singh, who joined the department on 3 April,2006. Dr Bineeta Yadav took over the charge of the Department on 1st July 2016. Dr. Anita Srivastava and Dr. Ashok Kumar Pandey joined the department on 7 August, 2018 and 1 August, 2019 respectively. The current members, Dr Bineeta Yadav, Dr Vineeta Singh, Dr Anita Srivastava, and Dr A.K. Pandey, have many research papers in journals of national and international repute to their name. Dr Anita Srivastava completed the UGC major project in 2014. Dr A.K. Pandey has supervised about ten Ph.D. students who have been placed in prestigious institutions and are performing quite well there. He has also authored a textbook entitled “Inorganic Chemistry B.Sc. II” in the year 2021. The Department has also had the good fortune of having Dr R. K. Gupta and Prof. R. K. Tiwari as guest faculty from 2017 to 2020 and from 2016 to 2020, respectively. Many students have qualified for NET and Civil Service exams under the valuable guidance of these teachers. The Chemistry Department was shifted from the Old Building of the college to the New Building in 2011, where two well-equipped labs are currently running. The two-lab assistants, Shri Subesh Kumar and Shri Rupesh Sinha, and Shri Kamal Sonkar, the lab attendant continues to do a robust job of making sure that the aforementioned labs run smoothly and to the best of their efficiency. The Chemistry Department provides rigorous preparation to students whose career paths require expertise in the field of chemistry. We are committed to demonstrating science as awareness and as a way to understand the natural world. We are focused on developing a scientifically literate and sound society through strategic and informative teaching. Our vision is that a student must obtain the necessary skills to be successful in the physical, mental and social aspects of their lives. We inspire students to develop self-confidence, positive attitude towards their curriculum. In the foreseeable future, we plan to pay attention to career exploration through meticulous self-assessment, values, and interests.
